Due to a busy Summer Holidays, we thought we'd have our main "camp" in October next year, staying in a ridiculously posh hostel (with en-suite bathrooms!) which we have booked all to ourselves, in the Heart of Snowdonia, where there are a lot of exciting activities we can have a crack at.

Survival weekend

Proper back to basics scouting challenges. Participants must build their own shelters to sleep in, build and maintain a fire to cook their own food upon (which they might have to skin first!) and learn all sorts of survival skills. Those who've done the Thur night training sessions will also get their survival Skills Activity Badge!

Uganda expedition & Centenerary Jamboree

Uganda will be celebrating 100 years of scouting in 2015. A team of our older explorers, along with some leaders, have formed a contingent to join what will be a very special centenerary jamboree at their national camp-site, Kaazi, where 1000's of Ugandan scouts gather from all over their country every couple of years. We will also visit the orphanage which many of you have been involved in raising funds to support, since a group of our leaders visited in 2008. Plus some other community projects which we'd like the Group to get involved in supporting. We'll also see some of Africa's wild-life!

Cycling from Oxford to Windsor, camping at Youlbury outside of Oxford and Longridge in Marlow on the River Thames, using some of the Thames Valley Cycleway to cycle off road, taking in scenic bits of the River Thames, as well as the challenge of the Ridgeway giving us some superb views from the top, finishing near Windsor Castle.

This year we will be doing our hack and burn in the Sherwood Forestry District, and staying at the recently refurbished Sherwood Lodge in Walesby Forest (see www.walesbyforest.org.uk ). On the sunday we've got three activities booked - Fencing (i.e. 'sword fighting'), Jacobs ladder (scary high-in-air team challenge)and crazy golf. As is traditional, the weekend will feature our unique style of evening entertainments!

Young Leaders / Explorers (over 16 years old only). Pre-summer-camp ultra-chilled weekend. Not all the beer got drunk at last years' summer camp, and had to be taken home. Hence this year the explorers/young leaders are invited to come two days' early to make sure that this gets done, and lots of fire wood gets burnt. Oh yeh, and the tents get pitched (we should just be able to squeeze this into a whole weekend). And maybe we find the best beach or fun-fair for the scouts.
